Overview

Premium Pigeon Peas from Kenya

Pigeon peas are dried leguminous seeds with a characteristic round shape and tan to brown colour with distinctive dark spots. The product is harvested, mechanically threshed, cleaned, sorted by size and density, and graded to remove defects and discoloured kernels. Pigeon peas are packed in food-grade polypropylene bags, kraft sacks, or bulk containers, meeting international food safety and phytosanitary standards for export.

Pigeon peas are sourced and exported by Jabali Madini Ltd from Kenya through the Port of Mombasa to food manufacturers, lentil processors, and distributors across East Africa, South Asia, West Africa, and the Middle East. Strong demand exists from dal millers, soup manufacturers, and ready-to-eat meal producers. The product is available FOB Mombasa in 20-foot container quantities with lead times of 2 to 4 weeks. Export documentation includes phytosanitary certificates, certificates of origin, bills of lading, and quality analysis reports.

Who Buys This Product

Our pigeon peas are imported by buyers across the following industry segments:

Dal and Lentil Millers

Dal processors split and mill pigeon peas into dehulled products for distribution as packaged consumer dal or ingredient supply to food manufacturers. The consistent kernel size and low defect rate ensure efficient milling yields and uniform product colour.

Soup and Curry Manufacturers

Soup and sauce producers incorporate whole or split pigeon peas into traditional curries, lentil soups, and ready-to-eat meal kits where the peas provide protein, texture, and authentic flavour profiles. The quick cooking time and stable composition make them suitable for both canned and dried soup applications.

Institutional and Foodservice Suppliers

Catering companies, restaurants, and bulk food distributors supply pigeon peas to institutional kitchens for meal preparation in cultural and traditional cuisine. The affordable cost per kilogram and nutritional density make them a practical staple ingredient for large-scale food operations.
